Mountain Brook Resident born in 1896 recalls early history

City Council has declared Mountain Brook Village historic, and an early resident, Clarence Helm, recalls his childhood in Mountain Brook in this Birmingham News article from October 17th, 1976. Born in a log house originally built on Euclid Avenue but moved to 119 Dexter Avenue in Crestline prior to his birth, the house is still standing but has been very altered, and so has never been awarded an historic marker by the Alabama Historic Commission. The house was originally built as a dogtrot log cabin and was still a frame cabin when the Board of Equalization photographed it in 1939. Read the complete article by clicking here.
