Lampposts in Mountain Brook will be a little more festive this holiday season.

The city approved about $3,400 for new holiday decorations to be added in Crestline, English and Mountain Brook villages. City Manager Sam Gaston said the decorations should be installed by mid-November.

"We always like to have them up by the weekend before Thanksgiving," he said.

The new decorations will complement garlands, bows and seasonal lights that go up every November. The city purchased resin displays that resemble peppermint candy and reindeer for Crestline Village.

For English Village, five foot tall angels with white lights will be displayed.

Gold-colored trumpets, Christmas trees with Santa Claus and assorted small lights are planned for Mountain Brook Village.

Sally Legg, chairwoman of the Mountain Brook Village Enhancement Committee, said the decorations were chosen to appeal to daytime shoppers.

"Retailers and people in our community have requested that the city update the holiday decorations," she said. "Our plan is to add creative decorations to the light posts in the villages that will enhance the traditionally used garlands and red bows. We hope that the decorative ornaments will make Mountain Brook unique and festive."

Legg said decorative options are still being discussed for Overton Village.
In addition, pansies have been planted this month in the city's decorative planters to add a yellow color scheme. In future, the committee hopes to involve community volunteers.
