Happy 80th Birthday, Mountain Brook Elementary! Graduates, Come Celebrate!
Mountain Brook Elementary celebrates its 80th year! All graduates are invited to a special event to celebrate MBE’s birthday. Visit MBE online HERE
The school was born when an eleven acre site was deeded by Robert Jemison, Jr. of Jemison & Company for construction of Mountain Brook Elementary School. Until construction was completed, classes were held in four rooms above what is now Gilchrist’s.
The school is the oldest existing public school in the Mountain Brook area and started as an eight room structure in the stately English Tudor style which complemented the design of the neighborhood.
In 1929, the school welcomed 143 students in grades kindergarten through junior high grades taught in six classrooms. The seventh room served as an office for the principal and the eighth room doubled as a lunchroom and social room.
In 1979, the school celebrated its 50th year with a reunion celebration that involved the entire school! Improvements and additions have continued over the years as enrollment at MBE has steadily climbed. The last construction project in 2006 included eight new classrooms, a special education suite and a renovated auditorium. MBE currently has enrollment of more than 582 students in grades kindergarten through sixth.
Join fellow alumni to tour the school and note how much we have grown as well as how much we have stayed the same through the years. Escorts will be available to guide graduates on a tour and refreshments will be provided. Parking around the school will be available.
For more information or to RSVP for the event, please contact Michelle Latimer

Great video on the future of publishing! But you have to keep watching to get the surprise!
This video was prepared by the UK branch of Dorling Kindersley Books and produced by Khaki Films (http://www.thekhakigroup.com/). Originally meant solely for a DK sales conference, the video was such a hit internally that it is now being shared externally. We hope you enjoy it (and make sure you watch it up to at least the halfway point, there's a surprise!).
Read an interview with the creator of the video on the Penguin Blog: http://bit.ly/futureofpublishing
The clip was inspired by a video created by an Argentinian agency, Savaglio/TBWA entitled Truth:
