The 2nd Annual Springalingadingdong Festival will take place on Saturday May 22nd, 2010 from 10 am – 4 pm in English Village in Mountain Brook.
The brainchild of the Continental Bakery & Chez Lulu’s Carole Griffin, Springalingadingdong celebrates the abundance of Spring and the passing of winter, with a comical re-enactment of the beheading of Marie Antoinette and her transformation into the beautiful May Queen.
Highlights include the Springalingadingdong Parade which takes place at 1 pm. The parade features giant twelve-foot puppets, a brass marching band led by Chad Fisher, the Tragic City Rollers (Birmingham’s Roller Derby gals), accordion players, the Erynias Tribe bellydancers, and the Whirlygigs hula hoop troupe. Other highlights include a he-man bread toss in which participants fling 4 ½ pound loaves of sourdough, a hula hoop contest, eating contests, a costume contest, English Village merchant discounts, a free lunch provided by Chez Lulu, a Maypole dance, an open-air market bazaar and a wealth of children’s activities.
