Sterne Agee LJCC "mini tri" May 31st - great opportunity for all ages and skill levels!
For those athletes who have wanted to try a triathlon - or those who don't miss a chance to compete in one - we encourage you to sign-up for the first annual Sterne Agee LJCC Triathlon we're hosting Memorial Day Monday, May 31st.
The event will be considered a "mini tri" and it's ideal for those of all ages as well as athletic skill levels. Entrants will swim 200 yards in our outdoor pool, cycle either five miles off-road on the trails behind the Center or eight-miles on the streets in this area, and end with a two-mile run. Individuals can enter or you can sign up to be on a team.

The Fitness Center will begin doing presentations to organizations, businesses and churches on “Creating a Healthy Lifestyle”. Our mission is to promote a healthy community by educating people in developing and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. We will offer presentations on fitness and nutrition or we can do just fitness or just nutrition depending on the group and length of time. Grades will be grouped according to participation levels in each grade. Emphasis will be on participation, throwing, and catching. Flag football will be structured so those children participating in other activities could still participate in football. For instance, there would be enough boys on each team to enable boys to miss a game due to other sports activities, camp, lake, beach, vacation, etc.
Fee - $80
Information concerning fall sports & registration dates for fall sports should be on the website by late July or early August.
**Effective September 1, 1994** Programs sponsored by MBA will be offered only to Mountain Brook residents whose children are eligible to attend Mountain Brook schools.

Spring a Ling a Ding Dong DETAILS! This Saturday, May 22nd!
The 2nd Annual Springalingadingdong Festival will take place on Saturday May 22nd, 2010 from 10 am – 4 pm in English Village in Mountain Brook.
The brainchild of the Continental Bakery & Chez Lulu’s Carole Griffin, Springalingadingdong celebrates the abundance of Spring and the passing of winter, with a comical re-enactment of the beheading of Marie Antoinette and her transformation into the beautiful May Queen.
Highlights include the Springalingadingdong Parade which takes place at 1 pm. The parade features giant twelve-foot puppets, a brass marching band led by Chad Fisher, the Tragic City Rollers (Birmingham’s Roller Derby gals), accordion players, the Erynias Tribe bellydancers, and the Whirlygigs hula hoop troupe. Other highlights include a he-man bread toss in which participants fling 4 ½ pound loaves of sourdough, a hula hoop contest, eating contests, a costume contest, English Village merchant discounts, a free lunch provided by Chez Lulu, a Maypole dance, an open-air market bazaar and a wealth of children’s activities. Mountain Brook's Alison Gorrie is one of 10 middle and high school students nationwide to win the Prudential Spirit of Community Award for her volunteer work.
Gorrie, 17, known as Alie B., received the award today in Washington, D.C., for her work organizing "Songs for Sight," a benefit concert last year that raised $420,000 for low-vision research and rehabilitation services at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. The concert was Gorrie's brainchild.
